So we’re back for our final year, two weeks ago we started semester one and we started two modules. One solely based on Portfolio Development and another module called Dissertation and Critical Review across the whole year.
For Portfolio Development, we were given a four week brief to express the place we’re in, whether it be the literal place we were/are in, the geographical location, the state of mind, the psychological, the spiritual and financial. These headings were thought of in an idea generation session and the aim of the brief is to then graphically communicate that ‘Place’ intelligently for an audience to understand.
This is a sneak peak of some of the work, I have been doing for the ‘Place’ I am in…
So over the summer, we were asked to think about what we may research for our dissertation. The daunting task of finding something we find interesting and can sustain over the whole year without getting bored. That period has culminated with a presentation.
My topic is about persuasion, and how design can be used for selling, marketing advertising and often force opinions on the consumer. Also I was looking into how propaganda and advertising are linked and how they influence others to a ideology; belief system and/or product, and how they can both rightly and wrongly persuade people into that way of thinking.
This year brings lots of work, questions and thinking about the present and future.
- What do I want to do with my degree?
- Where do I want to work?
- Where do I see myself in five years time?
I look forward with anticipation to a year of discovery and exploration.
Comment below about places you might be in. Whether it might be sitting on a sofa reading this or the place your mind wanders to when you are thinking. Feel free to give examples.
